LOOK: Dead Body Of Basit Usman

Wanted terrorist Basit Usman is dead, the Palace said Sunday night.
Usman was killed in a firefight in Guindulungan, Maguindanao on Sunday noon, Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said, citing the military.
A source gave ABS-CBN News a photo of the alleged dead Usman.
Neither the military nor police have made a positive identification on the body.
A closer look at the photo, however, indicates that the dead man's thumbprint may have been taken.

"We are awaiting the submission of the AFP's after-operations report which is forthcoming," Coloma said.
Usman escaped from the Mamasapano clash in January that led to the death of 44 police Special Action Force troops.

Zulkifli bin Hir (alias Marwan), the other target of the Mamasapano operation, was confirmed killed in the January 25 clash, according to DNA tests on a finger cut from his remains.

While Coloma did not give additional details, Army and police officials said Usman and 5 others were killed near a creek in Muti village.

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fighters are credited for the kill. The MILF has yet to issue a statement on the incident.

In March 2014, the MILF signed a peace deal with the government ending about 45 years of conflict that has killed 120,000 people and displaced 2 million. But, the rebels will not lay down weapons until after a final peace deal is reached.

The rebels are waiting for government to set up a new autonomous government in the south, granting wider powers on its economy, politics and social life.

The peace deal was questioned after some MILF rebels were blamed for the death of the 44 SAF commandos, who were on a secret mission to arrest Marwan and Usman.

Marwan and Usman were blamed for strings of bomb attacks in the southern Philippines. Both had links with the defunct Jemaah Islamiah, a regional al Qaeda-linked militant network and were subject of a combined $6 million bounty from the U.S. State Department.

The government said it will file murder charges against 90 gunmen who were found to be involved in the killing of 44 police commandos. Seventeen rebels and four civilians also died in the deadly clash in January 25. - with a report from Reuters
