This heartbreaking clip shows the moment a devoted dog stands guard over its friend as it lies dead at the roadside after seemingly being run down by a car.

Motorbikes and cars rush past, as the black and white hound lies over its pal, shielding it from the vehicles.

It then tries desperately to drag and push the dog to the side of the road, but is unable to move it.
The heartbreaking footage, posted on LiveLeak yesterday, has already been viewed almost 10,000 times.

It appears to have been shot in Sutton, Dublin - but the reason the dog is lying by the side of the road is not explained.
